Position Title: Early Childhood Teacher, Full-time

Overall Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Director, Teachers are responsible for the education and general development of children. Responsible for contributing to the development of the overall agency and center’s educational plan and for the classroom implementation of the center plan that is geared to meet the needs of each individual child enrolled in the program in accordance with Home of Life Standard.

Responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining the program to meet the needs of the individual child in the following areas of development.

Safety/Health

Demonstrate safety practices both indoors and outdoors at all time, including adequate supervision.

Responsible for the removal of unsafe equipment and furniture

Plan and implement activities that promote personal health and nutrition in each individual child.

Social/Physical

Plan and implement activities that develop awareness of feelings and emotions.

Serve as a role model, along with praising and encouraging of positive social interaction.

Plan and implement activities that promote the physical development of each child.

Cognitive

Plan and implement developmental appropriate activities that promote questioning, probing exploration and problem solving using the following High Scope Key Experiences.

Social Relations and Initiative

Creative Representation

Music and Movement

Language and Literacy

Logic and Mathematics

Creativity

Plan and implement activities that promote creativity. Provide equipment and materials that encourage creativity. Encourage innovative use of materials and divergent thinking.

Communication

Plan and implement activities that promote children’s listening skills and communication. Plan time in daily schedule for children to communicate with each other and adults.

Learning Environment

Plan and implement activities that promote an interest in learning environment. Offering a choice of learning center throughout the day.

Self-Esteem

Plan and implement activities that promote opportunity for success. Provide positive feedback to children when appropriate. Acknowledge each child through praising and encouraging.

Classroom Management

Maintain an environment conductive to preventive discipline. Maintain consistent discipline in the classroom. Set and enforce appropriate limits.

Program Management

Assess each child’s current skill level.

Write observation notes daily/weekly.

Summarize children’s skills quarterly.

Conduct Brigance Screening on child yearly.

Conduct two parent/teacher conference per year.

Maintain and follow up documentation on the children assigned to your classroom for the duration of the time the child is in the classroom. This includes keeping a portfolio with sampling of the children work, anecdotal record, and other classroom forms that are done on the child.

Responsible for referral of children and working closely with Special Consultants and other resource personnel.

Implement the daily classroom schedule, attend staff meeting, parent meetings, and training for professional development.

Train and supervise the assistant teacher and or classroom aide.

Share responsibility with the teaching team and volunteers for cleaning up after classroom activities.

Develop weekly lesson plans, including plans for all field trips and special events.

Inform parents and visitors on classroom procedures, rules and regulations.

Responsible for reporting incidents of abuse or neglect to the Director and follow-up in accordance to agency guideline and time frames.

Responsible for reporting all incident and accidents to the Director including write ups of the documentation and making the parents aware of the situation ASAP and having the parents sign the documentation form on arrival.

Complete all documentation within the appropriate time frame.

Assumes overall responsibility for submitting supply orders and maintaining proper care of equipment and supplies.

Meet with the assistant teacher and or classroom aide twice a year to review goals and job performance.

Meet with the Director twice yearly to review goals and yearly job performance appraisal. Participate in interviews and selection of site staff.

Responsible for informing the Director of any concerns or disagreement of team member, other staff members and Director.

Qualifications

Certain teacher positions require a B.S. with a Type 4 Certificate; other positions a C.D.A or A.A. with three years teaching in a pre-school setting and at least two years of education in early childhood education.
