History

Home of Life Community Development Corporation (HLCDC) is a 501c3 non-for-profit organization founded in 1991 and incorporated in 1993.

Since its inception, HLCDC has served the surrounding community in the area of social services. Many of our direct and indirect service staff members and independent contractors are certified in their professions, and have years of experience in their chosen fields. We have credentialed social service workers, childcare and Head Start instructors, and business owners on staff. Their areas of expertise include insurance, real estate, banking, ministry, counseling, childcare, mentoring and social work. The areas of expertise ranges from Insurance, Real Estate, Banking, Ministerial, Counseling, Childcare, Mentoring and Social Work.

HLCDC has connections with the following local organizations, agencies, businesses, and schools that are willing to assist us in our endeavors:

· The Safer Foundation

· Chicago Department of Human Services

· The Department of Children and Family Services

· CAPS

· New York Life Insurance

· State Farm Insurance

· US Bank

· Austin Bank

· First Bank of Oak Park

· North Lawndale and Shore Bank

· Westinghouse High School

· Marshall High School

· Austin High School

· Surrounding area grammar schools

HLCDC has collaborated with the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development and various community organizations to place over 300 students in summer employment programs. Using funds from an Empowerment Zone/Economic Communities Grant, we have also provided life readiness skills and job placement services to 75 students aged 14 to 21. In addition, HLCDC has a partnership with the Cook County Juvenile Service Program. Our New Beginning initiative provides highly disciplined, highly structured work and re-education for troubled youths who are under the control of the criminal justice system. Through an association with the City of Chicago Clerk’s office, young adults are able to complete their community service at our Madison Street location..

The Sadie Porter Positive Achiever Program focuses on mentoring. We provide positive role models who are knowledgeable about the harsh reality of life on the streets, and are able to counter with the necessary prevention and intervention methods. This program teaches its participants to plan for the future, and engages them in activities that promote self-esteem, educational and vocational awareness, and healthy social interaction.
